Air Conditioning or Heat Pump - What’s the Difference?

In New Zealand, air conditioners are generally referred to as heat pumps. Both systems work by moving heat from one place to another. In summer, they take warm air from inside your home and transfer it outside, leaving your indoor space cool and comfortable.

The key difference is that a heat pump can reverse this process in winter – extracting heat from the outside air (even when it’s cold) and transferring it indoors.
